Bakelite Fountain pen
This is the first pen of a set. The kit is a black Ti from Lau Lau Woodworks and the blank is from Dawn at Exotic blanks.
I found the Bakelite quite a challenge and resorted to carbide tipped tools for the best result. If I had a metal lathe I am sure the material would have turned much easier. The end result was mind blowing though and the pictures do not do the material justice.
The finish is polished to 12k mm and then Plastx car polish.
The next one is a roller ball and will be in rhodium so I think the blank will really stand out. The only fountain pens I can find in this kit are black Ti anybody know of a source of rhodium?

As a general rule, I try to avoid blacks at all costs. I just hate trying to get the micro scratches out. What I'm trying to say is anyone who turns a black blank and gets it to finish like that has impressed me. Great work and beautiful pen.
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

That speaks pure class. Very nicely done. I love the kit.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.
