    Default Bethlehem Carob and EB

After 6 weeks of 60-70hr days at work I took thur-fri off and I ventured out to get re-acquainted with my lathe and spent most of the night doing
some dipping sessions every hour or so with a Waterborne Polyurethane Varnish.

There is timber has some nice red but usually when I apply a finish is the red fades and appears to wash out.

This is a pic of the timber in my hot box as it dries. Finally, a finish that appears to pop the red in the carob ...

And the red not only didn't fade it popped nicely.

This pen was delivered to the owners wife of our local Woodcraft store this afternoon and she was tickled pink.

    Very nice.

How have you found the durability of that type of finish ?

What I've used has been very good. They say you can use it on floors so it has to be pretty tough.

    Thanks ...

It's getting too cold to use CA in the garage so it looks like I'll be doing dipping sessions this winter. I found that after dipping and putting it in my hotbox it is dry enough to re-dip in 15-30 minutes.

    Very nice well done

How do you separate your bushes after you have finished dipping?

Actually it is no problem at all. The coats are so thin that the bushes just pull of with a slight twist.

I used to do that with ca but I found sometimes it would remove some of the finish on the pen itself so you would get a ugly edge so now I part them off with a knife.

So far that hasn't been an issue but I do have an xacto knife close by.

Last two all I did was lightly tap the bush on the lathe bed and the bushes fell right off.
