Birdseye Gentleman
Hey Guys. Just finished this Birdseye Huon Pine Gentleman. It has the usual 20 coats of thin CA, Micro Meshed, Brasso, & finally MaGuires Speed Glaze. I have heaps of so called Birdseye Huon Pine and 99% of it has bugger all actual birds eye's in it. This pen was also cleaned with metho after turning & sanding the raw timber, then a coat of linseed oil was burnished into the wood, to give it a golden warm color, then the 20 coats of CA applied. Ihave found that the application of linseed oil (burnished into the wood, then wiped dry) not only gives the wood a deeper hew, but aids in the very easy release of the bushes from the blank / brass tubes.

That looks Pariss but the one thing that concerned me with what you said was the fact that you use brasso on the CA as a cutting polish and then finish off with the Maguiers polish i have found in the past that the brasso has cut way into the CA and i could never get a really strong finish. I find that the Micro cutting plastic polish and then maguires so I am interesting to hear what you have to say about it ?
Cheers Ian

Very nice, subtle grain pattern there and a beautifully finished pen!!
I too wondered about the Brasso.

Thanks Ian. Re-Brasso. I have always done all my pens using that procedure. It's the way David from Timberbits does all his pens. Brasso is basically the next grit down from the finest Micro Mesh pad, then the Speed Glaze is the next finest grit. All my pens have amazing glass-like finishes, which everyone comments on.
I never forget anything I remember !!
