A Black Chrome Tapa in Antler
I got a few of the new Tapa Pacifica pens (Sierra) and wanted to see it
in Antler so I did one, and like the way the Black chrome looks with
the antler. My pictures probably don't do it justice (someday)
Thanx for looking ~ Joe Pozzi I hope this works or I'll feel real stupid

Joe,
Very nice pens. I agree, the black chrome works really well with the deer antler. As far as "looking stupid if that didn't work".... the way I get around that is to look stupid all the time, that way my mistakes aren't as evident. Trust me, there is a logic there...it might be stupid logic...but read sentence 3 above.

The antler looks really effective Joe. Well-matched betwixt antler and kit, me old son.

Ooooohhh. Now, THAT I like! Nice pen kit. And the antler really shows it off nicely. There's nothing wrong with your photography either.
Well done.

looks really good to me"nice looking kit too.Just a thought l would really love to see someone make a antler pen with bark on them.Theres is very few pens that show the bark l think a pen showing the bark would make it unique! l have not done a antler pen yet so l don't really know what sort drama there is in making one l would think the drama would be in the size of the blank just my thought's it has nothing to do with your very well made pen maybe l should have ago at it and find out what drama there is.

Very nice, the shading in the antler is really enhanced by the black kit.
The last pen I did in antler didn't have as much colour... just the odd smudge here'n'there so it all ended up looking like a grotty piece of piece of ivory. [sigh]
Bingo! Plus there's not much chance of finding cylindrical antler... it's all tapered.

An answer to Big Dog
Thank you all for the kind words it means alot being a noobie and a Yank to boot
Old Dog I will attach a pic of a big closed end Elk Antler cigar desk pen in a naturally shed Elk Burr leaving the bark on it, and next to a regular cigar both made of antler to show the size I like working with antler and decided to try this. For what it's worth I never had an antler pen crack untill making the closed end and it developed after about 3 months. It still works fine though Thanx again all ~ Joe Pozzi

Joe,
Great work on those two pens, the turned out awesome. I have done the closed end before, but never considered using the antler base as a pen stand....brilliant! Got a question for ya. When you are doing the closed end section, how do you shape it? I have been doing mine on a grinder. As the smell is rather ghastly, my wife would also appreciate another way of doing it.

Rick,
Thanks for the kind words. I kind of got used to the smell, but I do it in my garage so shmbo doesn't get the smell. I also wear a mask (cheapie kind) just to keep the dust out, as I hear antler dust is not good to breathe. I did it on the lathe by making my own expanding mandrel of sorts. I found a concrete anchor close to 10mm size and just played around until it fit good and tight and then chucked the bolt that stuck out and went to town I hope that is clear as mud LOL

Joe, The pens look great, the kit shows off the antler and the antler the kit, ie they are made for each other, Amos

Aye, that's a seriously nice bit of kit.
Paired up with another one on a nice timber tray/base to make up a desk-set and it'd be the envy of many an office-worker!
