Blackwood Pen and Pencil set
Here is a pic of a pen and pencil set that my 2 daughters aged 7 and 10 and I made from Blackwood. We haven’t been making pens for long so still are learning, but we are having lots of fun along the way.
Regards
Al .

That top pen sure has the grain both different congratulate the authors and take a bow for having the foresight and patience to spend time this way with your family. They at those ages will never forget, suggestion this timber has teeth and catches most people, use safety masks it has nearly put me in bed more than once. All the best Peter

Thanks to all that replied.
The Blackwood came from a tree that had blown over years ago on a property that my friend goes to. We cut the tree up and slabbed the logs, I had some offcuts left over and thought that a piece of it would look nice as a pen. (I have attached some pics)

My experience with my metal lathe is any time I have used it for wood it stains the bed and sucks the residual oil out of the metal it clogs up the ways.Bet the kids hands were stained too blackwood has a way of its own,Most rewarding timber when finished with that deep lustre you collectively captured,I was a photographer for ever it seems and tried to interest the family to take pics, they all did but much later, glad yours responded now.Top xmas to you and yours. Peter
