BLK TI JR Emperor Fountian Pen
Here is a Black Titanium JR Emperor Fountain Pen made out of Buffallo Horn. Got both the kit and horn from CSUSA. Straight bush to bush turning, the design is classic and anything else would look out of place, IMHO. Wet sanded with MM up to 12000, then buffed with EEE, then a pre polishing compound and final polishing was with Dilux polishing rouge.

Love that kit, pity it costs so much, nice job. As a matter of interest, how much would you sell that one for?

Sold it for $195.00 and the husband to be said he wants the roller ball version for his everyday use pen. The fountain pen will be used to sign the wedding certificate and that's it.

Hi Darren,
Very impressive pens indeed. Just wondering who you mean by "CSUSA"? This is the type of turning I would like to do when I finally make up my mind on which lathe to buy.
Is the pen heavier than the wooden pens? I like the feel of a good solid pen when I use one. Would also like to try Amboyna as well but not sure of where to get the blanks from.
Cheers

Hi John, the pen is a heavier pen but not by much, as Toasty said CSUSA is Craft Supplies USA, they would have Amboyna, try also Ernie at Beartooth Woods and try ebay.

Thanks guys for the reply.
I shall go and have a look at the sites.
Is there any one web site that is better to visit price wise than any other, or are they all much of a muchness?
I have tracked down one exporter of Buffalo Horn in Scotland
http://www.highlandhorn.com/index.asp
but I guess there are more, probably much closer to home than that.
I don't know how they compare price wise either.
Cheers

Question
Isn't it against customs regulations to import animal parts?
I'm thinking for reasons of deseases (Mad cow etc.)
Bloody nice pen though.

Gino this stuff is from buffallo, any of the mad cow is from Britian, CSUSA have been send this stuff to Australia for a while now. It was the first thing I asked and it got cleared no problems. You will get in all sorts of strife if you try and get deer antler, spalted timber, or timber with bark inclussions. Thanks for your comments on the pen. The new owner allowed me to write with it and it is smooth, just glides across the paper.

Thanks Darren, good to know. I wanted to do something similar a while ago but never bothered as I figured it would be against customs regulations.
Was in Italy recently and saw this French made pocket knife made out of cow horn but did not buy it for the same reasons. Must enquire if I ever go again.
regards

Gino if you do have a concern about natural products, there is a company in England call GPS Agencies that sell and arternate ivory, ebony, cow horn, mother of pearl and others. It comes in rods, bars and flat sheets as well. Might be another option for you.
