Bored with CA ...
Tired of doing CA finishes do I got out my dipping station and did some pens in the two Waterborne General Finishes I got from Woodcraft.
I apologize for the poor pics as the depth and shine doesn't show up properly.
Pink Ivory Ultra Cigar finished with Enduro Var
A 'Fishers of Men' Pen dressed in BOW and dipped in High Performance.
A PSI Gatsby pen with a wood I'm not familiar with, Zelkova, Dipped in High Performance
I don't know is I got this Zelkova wood from via a trade or from a raffle at our Pen Turning meeting but I definitely will be looking for more.

Hey Ron,
How long does it take to do a Dip Finish, I would assume that you dip it, let it dry then dip again and let it dry and then Polish ???

Hard to answer Harry ... but these were all done yesterday.
It dries enough in 15-20 minutes to re-dip and there are 4 coats on these.
I dip and put it in my hot-box and when I remember I go and do a second dip.
I let it dry over night (not sure that's necessary) because I was going to work and then assemble the components this afternoon.
No Polishing required ... what you see is how it comes out.

Top pens Ron!!
After some discussion here about CA going brittle over time it would be interesting to see how all the different finishes stand up over time.

Great looking pens.. Background is too distracting for them.
Reality is no background music.

Is their a special technique for dipping varnish. I thought I understood what you did but your comment that one of the finishers was for floors so i have had to have a rethink.
Does it have to be thinned and how did you go about actually dipping the blanks.

I see how you dip them but my question is after they dry do you have a problem getting the bushes off of the blank? I would think you would have to score around the bushes, right???
Thanks,
Bruce

No Bruce, no scoring and they come off easily and because the bush is on the bottom there is no collor at the bottom as it has wicked off.
I can't say if it is the General Finishes Waterborne products I'm using or all Waterborne finishes. With Dest Gloss Lacquer I do have to score around the bushes
