    Default BOW Cigar

Well here's my first piece of the BOW from the group buy.

I tried to pick one of the less figured pieces to see what the lowest common denominator was. I chose this piece as it didn't show much figuring through the middle, however it did have a knot near the middle, so I hope to show a bit of both sides of the equation.

So it's not particularly impressive from a blank point of view, but it is still a piece of Bethlehem Olive Wood, which to some people is significant enough.

As for the turning, it turns incredibly easy. I went in with my usual vigor and almost chewed through too far before I realised how much wood I was taking off. That Olive Oil sure makes it turn like greased lightning. The darker marks turn slightly harder though. But harder to get a nice smooth finish on the end result as well.

Decided to do a straight Shellawax finish on a Chrome Cigar kit, with a textured background and a transparent frame.

    Russell.

Looks good Russell ! smells good when drilling and turning as well hehe, the Knot certainly makes a difference to the character of the wood ,finishing this stuff may require some more thinking about because of the oily content ? cheers ~John
