my first box - pen collection box
This is my first box that I have made.
I did it for my year 10 design project.
It is designed to be used as a storage box for my pen collection.
I'm into pen turning, and didn't have anything to put my nice pens in.
I was involved in the pen swap earlier this year, so have started a pen collection.
First we had to design and document the project and then make it.
I chose and bought the timbers myself as my school only provided radiata pine.
I would like to thank enfield_guy for assisting with the cutting and thicknessing
of the camphor laurel (as my school didn't have a band saw big enough to cut it with)
I got the timber at the Timber and Working with wood show this year, but we didn't have anything big enough to slice it up, and neither did the school.
He also kindly gave me some of his silky oak. Over night after he cut the camphor laurel, the thinner boards that I planned on using
for the back and draw fronts warped and was unable to be used.
It is Camphor laurel top, base and sides. The drawer fronts and carcasses, and the back are silky oak.
The knobs are hand turned from a pen blank I got in the pen swap, they are black walnut from USA
The box was sanded to 1500 grit and wiped over with danish oil with orange oil between each coat and 2 coats of wipe-on
poly high gloss.Josie :P :)

This is WRONG. Clearly the folder moderators need to be involved to prevent this sort of post being displayed on this website. Where do you kids get off displaying great piecesof work and embarrassing us older gents who may never have made anything as good as this.
BAN this kid I say!! and delete all posts like this
Well done Josie, excellent effort

Nice work
Howdy Josie
It good to see young people with talent and a good eye for design, as a man arts teacher I see alot of students who just cant be bothered in having pride in what they make. Thats a really classy project!!,
