First Buck eye burl
My first buckeye burl and it won't be the last, what a fabulous material
I purchased two from CSUSA and they were the same lot number but they are totally different in colour.
The pen was originally a spec fountain pen to see what it would look like but it was sold on the mandrill and changed to a roller ball. Going to a CEO of a hospitality consulting firm for Christmas
A lot of Ca was used on the way to fill in holes and voids , sanded to 12000MM and then 6 coats of WOP.

Boy that sure has a lot of colour. Fantastic blank, and looks like you've filled it well, as it looks smooth as glass.
Well done.

Its a great looking pen. The timber looks like stone.

Looks wonderful.
I like that timber. You might have to CA fill a lot, but it's worth every drop.

Nicely done, Sam. Buckeye burl is one of my favorite timbers because you never really know what you will get blank to blank until it's round. It's always a surprise and it rarely disappoints.
Yours is a beauty! When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

Sam that is one fine piece of Buckeye Burl you have there. It is a timber you could turn all day. Your craftsmanship and finish are first class

Thanks everyone
I really enjoyed turning the one and look forward to many more. When the dollar does go up then we will look at some more and some of those Majestic kits they also look nice
As Al said they are all different the two I purchased had the same lot number but one is the blue grey colour and the other is cream it will be interesting what is inside.

Yeah, that darn $$. Just as I want to look at a bunch of things from the US, and the price goes up 40-50% And to complicate matters, I have to keep withdrawing my Paypal US$ funds in case the $$ does go up again, and it loses it's value. Now if only I was selling my boomerangs in US$ instead of AUS$, I'd be making that 40% back again, but I lose out both ways. Ahh well, the fun of international currency.

hehe! you cannot beat mother nature for artistic talent , we may enhance and show it off but in the end she is the best ! Put a piece of man created plastic wood furniture against a real wood grained product, price and convenience are the killers, and a lack of resources in our consumer orientated world have a lot to answer for sometimes, thankfully we can still make nice stuff with very little impact on the environment ,using scraps and leftovers for beautiful objects like the one you have shown here,Simply the best
