    Default Buckeye Emperor

After cisco teased us last week with his buckeye burl, I managed to get hold of a few pieces to have a go for myself. The first victim is my sole remaining emperor (come on payday! ).

Following cisco's advice, after I sanded the barrels I gave it a coat of BLO - very dramatic change! The blank went from a pasty cream and washed out blue to the colours below (top photo has the most accurate colours).

I havent got the CA finish mastered yet (still experimenting on some scrap), so I stuck with rustins.

I did manage to make one minor stuff up - the cap profile is ever so slightly curved, so the barrel actually touches the inside of the clip . I was trying to make that one dead straight - guess I need to get my eyes checked!
(and clean my hands before taking pics - 'scuse the grubby fingerprint on the cap. )

Nicely done! That second photo took my breath away. I reckon that blank was worthy of an Emperor kit. Is that a keeper, or are you going to sell it?

Thanks guys, I'm rather taken with the buckeye, it's an amazing timber!

This one I'm keeping (unless someone offers me an insane amount of money! ). Tempted to go the extra mile and put an 18 karat nib on it, if the finances can stretch that far...
