Bullock Bush
Hey everyone. Got some shed time today and turned out several pens. This one is a Spring Blossom dressed in Bullock Bush. This was a pretty nasty lump of timber, full of cracks and pits. I had to fill the pits and dings with coffee grounds, and flood the cracks with CA. Also kept the chisel razor sharp, and managed to turn it to shape without it exploding all over the joint. A couple of visual cracks that aren't going anywhere, just add to the outback flavor of the pen I reckon.

That's one mean looking pen. You managed to fill all those imperfections beautifully, and captured the gloss nicely in your photos. Well done as usual.

Pariss,
An exciting pen the very name conjours up memories of the old days, bullock teams, swearing, whips cracking, not surprised the timber gave you a challenge you met head on and won handsomely. Love the kit, beaut timber matched when closed grain. The finish is excellent, presented the same way to allow maximum admiration from me.
This distinctive pen, distinctive name is a keeper mate.
Kind regards Peter.Nil Desperandum

Got me wondering....have you ever measured the thickness of your CA finish?
I'm gonna go stare at that finish for awhile....and dream about not glueing my fingers together.
First rate turning you've done!

Thanks fellers for the kind remarks. Hey Scott B. No, I never have measured the CA thickness, just pretty much always apply 20 coats of thin CA. I do turn the blank down level to the bushes, then sand up to 600, which will reduce the radius about 4 or 5 thou, but the CA brings it back up to the right measurement. I just do it by eye. In my trade I deal in thousands of an inch measurements all day - every day, so you develop a bit of an eye for minute variances. Cheers.
