Burl Eucalypt Emperor Fountain Pen
This pen is again made for Dayacom.
Burl Eucalypt (Stringy bark) Emperor Fountain Pen. This blank had lots of voids in it, some as large as 3mm cracks.
Sanded to 400 grit, 5 coats of thin CA, 4 coats of thick CA to fill the voids, another 5 coats of thin CA. Then 400 grit Micro-mesh to 12,000, Brasso and automotive polish/wax.
This pen has a few voids in it which isn't visible in the photos but is hidden behind the clip. Not my favorite pen but am still very happy with it..
As always, your comments or suggestions is always appreciated.

fantastic looking pen David. I don't think voids take anything away from the pen. Some people actually prefer to have them unfilled.
On another note, if you're looking for a different way to fill voids, i've experimented with glitter powder and epoxy with great success. This is like normal glitter but it's extremely fine and therefore fills very small spaces effectively . It ends up looking almost like opal. Only problem is it's very expensive.

Great pen David, each piece of wood has its own character, and that really has character. Amos

I hope the deal is they supply kits, you supply the wood and skills I used to worry about minor imperfections in a pen material, such as small voids , but finally realised that the so called "imperfections " are a natural part of the scheme of things and only add character in some cases ,especially in natures handiwork such as burls and some other timbers. It's very easy to see the difference between mistakes and poor quality workmanship ,to a well produced object with proof it is a real "material" and not a man made imitation product.Real diamonds may not be "flawless" artificial " ones may be The care and attention in your pen will show ,the flaws will only make it real .Well done indeed ! While striving for perfection ,we can get some excellant results along the way,and that's what the journey is about !
G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

Nice job David, you should be happy with that result (although I do share your sentiment on the kit-bit too flashy for me)

That is gorgeous, David! Basicall, what is the set up for your photos? They are nice. I don't need pics or anything. Just what is your light source and camera setting? They really "pop"

Some people are like Slinkies... Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

fantastic pen mate, eucalypts in general have some great character in their burls and the voids just give it even more character

That's a real beauty! The timber has lots of character in it which I like to see. Nicely done!

Hi BlankBrain
The setup that I use to take my photos is 4 x 24watt fluros. Nothing special and no fancy tents.
I like to get the lamp reflection on the pens because it highlights the high gloss finish.
Camera setting is appature of about 15 - 22f and a shutter speed of 1/30.
