You need to compromise
Burn the straight pieces with uninteresting grain and keep the knotted pieces that have the nice grain we like.
Also you can use the shavings for tinder to help get the fire goingCheers Rum Pig

Yep a lot of fire wood there but bound to be some nice pens as well. That will be half the fun, finding the treasures, enjoy

This is the problem all us turners have we keep looking at our woodpile with different eyes
I find I get more ruthless as winter rolls on and the official woodheap gets smaller.Michael

G'day @ wm460 and Rum Pig,
What's the coldest it gets up your neck of the woods? Assuming you even have woods of course

If it gets below 20oC its cold. The lowest it gets would be around 13oC but that is only a odd night or two each year and the day still we reach over 20oC. Put it this way there not a day that you can not wear shorts and a T-shirt.

G'day Rum Pig,
Am responding in this colour because that's what you make me. Green with envy. Particularly as there has been snow about 15k from here already this year.
