I tend to agree, though I doubt that the lack of a wand slowed me down too much when I was a kid in the hunt for something to poke eyes out with... Modern toys do have to be pretty well engineered to not cause injuries which is all fair enough, I guess.
I've got a bunch of nieces and nephews aged between 4 and 8 who I'd like to make them for, but just don't know if I should. Maybe I'll just make one for myself for the fun of it. That first one with oak and purple heart looked pretty schmick
