    Default CA accelerator

Ok folks, this is going to sound like the actions of a mad man, But I was getting rather impatient with waiting for my CA to cure between coats, as I dont have any accelerator I wafted a lit cigarette under the spinning blank and hey presto coat after coat was able to applied.
Be most interested to see whether it works for anyone else. Yes I know not healthy or terribly smart.

    Default Interesting.

Well it takes many ideas to come up with a solution. But honestly I do not think I like this one to much.
Fags are to expensive to use as an activator.

    Default where there is smoke

Just imagining the sequence of events..... dropping the smoke, last spotted going into the dust extractor, spinning in the cyclone and dropping into the bag. Wondering if it would be slow smoulder or a dust fired explosion. Getting to make some new friends when the fire truck turned up to douse down the wreckage where the shed used to be.

CA sets after contact with moisture, in this case from the air. I can only imagine that running your cigarette under it would cause more air movement and thus more moisture in the air to contact the CA. Try it just running your hand under it and see if it works. But for my money - accelerator is the way to go.

that's great to see that it worked for you BUT considering the price of smokes these days wouldn't you be better off waiting for the CA accelerator to arrive it won't take long if you go to the right places.

    cheers Ian

Make sure you drink a lot of beer before you breath on it - alcohol will stop the CA from going cloudly. But make sure you before going to bed or SWMBO might Good luck with it

I have no idea why a cigarette would kick off the CA. My big concern would be drawing the CA fumes through the cigarette. Burned CA can't be too good for your guts.

Hi pete, I guess I kinda opened myself up with this post, as a general rule I try not to smoke in the shed whilst woodworking, never when the DC is running, this came about with a quick smoke break between CA coats. Which is why I might invest in a can of activator then there's no time for a smoke break.

No sweat Joel. You are far away enough from me that I won't smell it no matter what you light up. I've seen guys that poke a hole in their cartridge mask so they could smoke while working, so your not so bad.

As an apprentice, I can remember my bosses wife laying in bed smoking, alternating beteween a puff on her oxygen mask and her cigarette, 20 years on she's still alive, but mesothelioma beat him
