    Default CA finish

I know I have touched bases on this topic before but I am just curious to know what product members are using now to do the CA finish on pens since the famous blue paper towel stopped being made here in Australia. You have all had a few months now to try things so I am curious to here what you have found the best ???

and where I can get some

    Cheers Ian

Craft foam. Can't remember the proper name. It was mentuoned in a thread some months ago now. I mistakingly bought sheets with a sticky backing but it stills works jst a little harder to hold (it has a waxy paper covering the adhesive). Cheap at $2 shops.

    Ian

I tried the craft foam and it works well to a point ( I have done a previous thread on it) but just doesn't give me the feel I need to know when to stop running along the blank. I now use Aldi kitchen paper only. I apply the CA over the top of the blank (a good 4-5 drops) and run the paper along underneath until I can feel there are no ripples. I know Pariss prefers toilet paper (a high quality of course).

Ian I still use Viva paper towel, the old standard. Have to call in and get some Gorilla Glue from a place and there is a cleaning supply store that sells to the public, will go check it out.

I've been using CAT paper towels as used by diesel fitters. If you can buy it by the box you will find it is excellent. Mine was a gift so no idea what it costs.

    Hey There,

I use the black and gold paper towels from IGA, about $4.00 for 3 rolls

I use packing foam, works great for me, cut into 25mm wide strips and lasts for about a dozen pens per 175-200mm strip.
Cheap too, especially when it comes with nice goodies.

Hi Ian. As you know, I've tried lots of things, but get best results with good ole dunny paper. This brand in particular, as it has a smooth even pattern and leaves no ridges at all.
    I never forget anything I remember !!

One more vote for the Aldi paper towel, not only the best I have used for applying CA, but also the best paper towel in the kitchen

I still use plain el cheapo paper towel but use medium ca rather than the thin since David changed the brand of ca he sells. I now do two coats of thin and then complete it with medium.

I previously used the paper towel, any brand, but I tried the closed cell foam Dabbler mentioned the other day. After a few trials to work out technique, and using less CA, I am a convert.

I went with some of the good quality paper towel today and was pleasently surprised at how good a job it done so untill I get to the $2 shop to try some craft foam then this will do me just fine. Thanks for all your imput because I would have been stuffed without your help as I started using some blue rags from woolies and it was a nightmare to use.

    Cheers Ian
