    Default CA finish

I have not turned a pen for about 6 weeks. The first couple of weeks there was no need to turn for I had plenty of ready made pens on hand.

Then I decided to build a new shed ,which because of room had to go where the old one stood. So, have been shifting timber ( I also carve ), packing boxes and finding where to put them. Now have council approval so to the dismantle stage of the old humpy.

Boy,this is long. lets cut to the CA finish. I have done a lot of Ca finish over the last 2 years and had a continual sneeze ( very bad sneeze ) and blowing of the nose. This went on 24/7 and had me awake at night.

Today it dawned on me that I have not used a tissue for a couple of weeks and I am sure it is because I am not using the CA finish.

Some people say that CA has no effects on the body, but I would now have to disagree with them.

    Sorry for the long post,
just had to give my opinion.

    Regards ,
    Terry

Terry when is the shed warming party? I am glad that your sneezing has abated. I may have been lucky in not having any problems from CA finishing before I had a powered respirator. have you had a chance to use the red Russet yet? I hope you enjoy the other items as well

no respiratory issues here, or rashes or anything like that...

the only thing i hate about it is the irritation to the eyes it gives me. tis to be expected tho cos the bottle says it. it happens when i get to close to the fumes or something but is fine as soon as i move back a bit.

getting it off your fingers is fun tho

    cheers

I like the finish but hate the smell and other nasties. I would also say that I have not been able to get the finish with CA that our friends over the pond get. You seem to have that mastered though Darren.

I have slipped across to Minwax gloss a rub on poly and it looks OK, available from Bunnies.

Yeah! when is the shed warming Terr?y

You mentioned that you hadn't been doing any turning or woodworking as you're packing things up. I have found out that when I don't use a very good mask my nose runs and is very stuffed. I finally bought a Triton respirator with a motor that recirculates the air so I am not breathing any particles of wood. Since purchasing it my nose no longer runs, my asthma is no longer a problem and I have also installed a venturi in the middle of my dust collection system so there is very little dust in my tiny shop. Do you wear a good mask? and have a dust collection system.

I also use a respirator. It's not that comfortable, but it works.

The other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".

    Hi,

Bdar, thank you for the goodies, things happened very quickly here ,so the blank is packed for a while..

I, also own a Triton respirator, but am not really happy with it. When I wear it I feel that it is not working. but when I put my hand behind me to feel the battery, it is working. I feel that there is not enough suction or flow in the system. Would be happy for any advice that is available on the respirator.

    Regards

Do you have the little flow gauge the respirator comes with? Clear plastic tube with a white ball in it. If it is pushing the ball up the the black circle then it should be pushing the amount of air it is meant to, if not, check things like the primary and secondary filters. Also make sure it has a good charge before you use it.
