    Default Cab/Sav or a Shiraz

I received a piece of French Oak Cask Spar form a generous benefactor, to whom I am very greatful. Well I cut a piece for a slimline and as luck would have it, I have captured a bit of the wine that had impregnated into the timber. When it was drilled out, the aroma of warmed mulled wine wafted through the workshop. So many thanks to my friend who sent it and I hope that you get enjoyment from seeing what I have created, as much as I have in capturing it's spirit so to speak.

Now, that's your story Darren, are you sure that it was that way, or did you spill a drop while turning?! , meanwhile, it has captured history without having to write it!, Amos

    Darren,
What a treasure that piece of wood must be. It made for a beautiful pen. I can just imagine the smell of it being drilled. Have you considered keeping the shavings from the drill and lathe and using it as an insence or maybe in a potpourri pot?

    Cheers,

    Rick

Amos honest truth it was a joy to turn and the aroma that came from within the wood is amazing. Nah don't drink anymore, diabetic and I have four reasons not to. It would be nice to know the age of the wine and the region it came from. Would make a nice marketing angle for vinyards, also an out let for pen sales could be had. Might have to see a wine maker I know.

Rick I didn't think of it at the time but I have a bit more of the spar so I will keep it, don't know if the aroma would last but worth to save it to try.

Mick don't think the stale beer smell when you drill would be good, but have an opportunity to aquire some barrels I think, I hope, well I will see anyway.
    Thanks for the comments everyone
    Darren
