    Default Cabernet Sauvignon Roman Harvest

Ok, I had to dismantle the pen to put a the new centreband on, and thought,"I know how to get the stubborn fitting off easy"," I will heat it with a heat gun, and because they are two dissimilar metals one will expand more than the other and then I will get it off easily"; However, applied too much heat and the CA didn't like it!, Stripped it right down and started again.
The blank is from the Vine "Cabernet Sauvignon" a gift from Lindz here on the forum. Amos

A bit of a whoops moment there Amos. Well recovered though. The final product is up to your usual high standard.

And here I was thinking you were experimenting with a new type of bubble textured finish . The best way to get these out is with a stepped drift , the first part turned to fit just inside the plastic ,and then stepped up to just fit inside the tube ,this gives a shoulder to push with and the first part inside the plastic stops the tube collapsing , I spend enough time with CA finishes to try and avoid refinishing like the plague . Nice pen though Amos, worth the trouble in the end Cheers ~ John

Great recovery job Amos It needs a general heat applied to release it. I throw mine in the wood BBQ where they can be a benefit.

There you go Amos not a great drawing but I think the principle will be clear , the stepped push rod does 2 things the part inside the centre band stops it collapsing when you apply the force (usually a hammer or mallet ) and keeps it central to distribute the force evenly around the part you apply force to, this works on those larger pens with the plastic that goes halfway up the clip tube ,they don't usually knock out easily either , but this method gives you a fighting chance at least of not damaging the parts . The steel rods used as transfer punches are great most times ,but sometimes just not a good enough fit inside the tubes so can do more harm than good as far as damaging things , hope that helps a bit , cheers ~ John
