Default carba tec veriable speed midi

    Hello everyone
    i have a carba-tec midi with a veriable speed
but of late the forward switch is not turning on as its should
i am thinking of turning the lathe around and running it in reverse (i am left handed anyway)
but am a little concerned how the motor will hold up running backwards for for extended periods of time
your thoughts and feed back would be appreciated

i am looking at upgrading to a bigger lathe but not just yet
    cheers Tony

    Err . . . . .

You do realise anything loaded onto threaded headstock holders like chucks and spurs areis likely to come loose and then off and most likely hit you?

To turn the other way you will need special locking nuts and collars to hold these items on.

I'd say get the thing fixed.

How have you been starting the lathe? They don't like starting at the high speed, especially the cheaper chinese VS controllers, you should always start at low speed and then speed up.

As for going in reverse, I have no idea as mine doesn't, but new speed controllers aren't that expensive these days although you need to ensure they have the grunt you need. I bought one for my Woodfast 305 (with PSI conversion), my old one was dying slowly just as you describe, was only $58 and it included a 240 to 110V transformer. I did a test drilling a decent hole in some hardwoods but have't put it to the test drilling out a pepper grinder in western rosewood

    Default The Motor.

    Hi Tony,
Most likely the start buttons are full of dust, so just blow or suck the stuff out.
    Regards,
