Sharpening
Hey guys, I’m only a newbie and have been touching up my chisels with a diamond stone, but really need to look at a jig. I’ve had a look on Carbatec and they have a reasonably priced grinder with white wheel. Their jigs tormek $550 or Nova $250, has anyone had experience with them or have another suggestion?
Cheers

I would say that the Tormek system is the best of all. Repeatability of the grind is guaranteed and the finish it the best
I have seen from any wheel.
Just waiting for a rich uncle to die so I can afford one!!!

I have a 2 speed 8" grinder which in our 60 cycle world is about 1700 and 3400 rpm. I usually have it switched to the lower speed. The jig and wheels are Oneway with the skew jig and the vari-grind too. A buddy gave me their balancing system so they are on as well. I suggest you look for an 8" grinder and fit an equivalent sharpening system on it. It will do you for a long time to come.

If you are just starting I also recommend an 8" grinder with a white wheel and as far as jigs go take a look at this one.
Sharpening Set up
Basic but effective, and all for the price of a but of ply and a few knobs.
If you have the readies I would suggest a CBN wheel over a white wheel

Dean,
as noted above it's my new set up, and easy peasy for a quick touch up. Pm me your details and flick you over the plans. And then when you have made that, you can make one of these.
