Carbon fiber and buffalo
Hi All
managed to get some shed time over the long weekend so i turned some of the carbon fiber and kevlar blanks i cast a couple weeks back. i still need a bit more practice with these, i dont think im gettin the sleeve tight enough on the tube prior to casting, the first one i turned was a little bit thin and some carbon fibre was coming through . good excuse to spend more time in the shed . pens are cirars
had my first attempt at turning buffalo horn also, wow that stuff stinks when drilling but is worth the end result. this is a roman harvest,
also made a pen and pencil set with exectuive kits these are made with cocobolo, i was lucky enought to get 2 pieces with a very similar grain pattern in them. it sure does have some amazing colours in it.
thanks for looking
all comments appreciated

Being you have them in your hands, you are able to see the flaws better than we can from a photo. They do look good and yes CF needs to be stretched tight to get it to lay flat but also it needs to be straight or the grain pattern looks off. Little tricky material to work with. I have some horn that I have yet to spin and I have always heard that it does smell foul. The outcome is stunning though. Thanks for showing and keep finding some shed time.

hey marty
love the buffalo horn , a little hint next time you try it or deer antler have a fan as close as you can without the handle of the chisel hitting it and full bore that will get rid of most of the smell ( I DIDN'T SAY ALL )

Nice collection of finished work there always satisfying when you produce stuff you are happy with , Being a long time smoker helps with horn and buffalo lol, sense of smell is less acute hehe, but I slow down the drill and squirt water to reduce the heat from drilling as that is the main cause of the smell as it can get pretty hot ,hence the smell is worse , cheers ~ John
G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!
