Looks good to me ... the only thing I'd try is a lighter veneer on either side of the dark veneer to highlight the sections where the knots intersect. It doesn't need to be another wood, I usually use coloured cardboard but white paper or cardboard on this should work well here depending on tolerances
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

Celtic knot problems

Corbs, thank you for tip about shadow/colour lines to separate the sections, that will set them off very nicely !! I picked up some card from the newsagents yesterday in various colours - the brains working overtime again now, LOL !!!
