They look fine Toni, when someone is paying you to make them plain like that, you just have ta bite the bullet  and resist the temptation to do something fancy

If you were after a straight edge slimline, there seems to be a few wobbles . If that was what you were after and you have troubles, use a straight piece of wood with sand paper rapt around it to do the final 0.5mm, gets a straight edge every time.
If not, please ignore me
I love Gidgee (next to my favourites of burl or dead finish). Pink Gidgee being best, just difficult to ensure you get the ring between the light and the dark.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

but yep I did bite the bullet the next two I got a bit more freedom with. but the money will come handy with buying my own christmas presents

Actually, I rather like the thin, straight-sided slimlines. I'd say that 1 out of every 3 pens I turn are just that... and I've found they're also the easiest ones to sell. (Price could be a factor there, though. ) Of course, it all depends on the wood used; pretty timbers sell themselves without needing any fancy turning.
Plain woods on a Slimline, though... [shudder] That's when I start laminating.

i tend to agree with Skewy and the laminated Slimlines can look very effective and a lot more interesting, in fact i am waiting with interest to see how fine you can get the thickness of the timber and the size of the segments. There are some "you bewt" combinations of timbers and patterns coming up. It really is enjoyable watching you all create these pens. What is especially enjoyable is how you rally together to help each other out. Nice to see all egos being shoved out the door as everyone gets together.

Yeah Tom that was half the problem. I was not allowed to play. I am one of those people the lathe is my area. So I love the freedom to do what I takes my fancy. But I know witht this person never happen. She loves control in every area. Poor bugger. LOL
