    Default Cigar Americana getting clogged

    Heya.

In the past I've made a few Cigar Americana pens. They're a popular set, mostly because of their compact size I think.

However I've had a few clog up on me. The ink stops flowing and even after an ink cartridge change, it's still not writing.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get the ink flowing again? Soak them in metho? Scrub them out completely? or just replace the nib section with a new nib?

I would remove the ink cartridge and insert a pump converter from another fp kit, then pump warm water in and out throught the nib till it clears.

Maybe try a better quality ink cartrdige after that?

Freds pretty right with this, all the inks I have seen appear to be water based, I have often had to unscrew the nib section and hold it under a running tap to clear them , freds Idea of a water filled converter if you have one is good also. The way these things work is by capillary action, the ink only flows as you write and draw more ink through, when you stop writing the ink stops running (hopefully at least) . If you get an air pocket that will stop the ink flow ,hope that helps .cheers ~ John

Thanks very much for the suggestions.

I don't have a pump converter but i may be able to blage something using a medical syringe.

Good to know it's water based too. i was expecting an alcohol based ink and metho or acetone to clean it up.

    Cheers.

If that doesn't work, drop me a PM with your address and I'll post one out to you.
