cigar pen bushings
hi all,
ok this is going to sound really confusing but please bear with me.
My question refers only to front part of the pen, specifically the next bushing along from the nib. I've noticed there's rather a difference in size between berea and dayacom bushings for this part of the pen.
All other measurements are very close but the difference between this bushing on the two brands is about 1mm. I've callipered the part of the pens on both brands and they are also pretty well the same size.
So this means that one of the bushings, specifically the berea one, seems undersized.
I've noticed that the part of the pen i'm referring to could be measured slightly differently based on what part you measure. I'm measuring the widest part, which seems to be what they dayacom kit is based on. The part is not straight however. It is curved and the wood meets a part of it that, due to this curve, is smaller in diameter.
Does this make sense to anyone or does it seem that my berea bushings are actually too small? I'm trying to see how they could work but without resorting to the scrap timber method or just using the dayacom ones.
I'd post photos for clarity but i'm typing this via my phone as the pc is being used by my very pregnant and therefore scarier that usual wife... so i'd best not bother her to post photos...

Cigar Bushings
Hey Eisbaer,
You probably should wait till the PC is available, you could also download the instructions (totally allowed in this part of our world) you will probably get a few of the Master Pen turners that will set you straight and and put you on the right track.
Good luck

Check the bushes against the fittings I think with my bushes there are 4 of them and they are laid out with the smallest bushing to the nib end ,the second smallest to the cap end, the largest bushing is the other end of the cap and the second largest is the barrel end opposite the nib.Thats with the Berea Kit at least , hope that clears it up a little for you !
Cheers ~JohnG'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

thanks john, that's how i read it too. Problem is the bushing i'm referring to and the clip bushing are the same size. Then again looking at the berea instructions this sounds like it should be right. It just seems so small compared to the dayacom one.

I'd probably stick a caliper to the pen parts and then the bushings. I wonder if you didn't get a bad set from one or the other. Had that happen once and the Seller sent me another set at no charge or postage.

Read of a similar situation on the IAP website. My suggestion is to PM David at Timberbits and ask him for the sizes of the Dayacom bushings and compare them to the Berea bushes.

No need for bushings.
Turn between centers and use a Micrometer to measure the fittings.
