Another Closed End Baron
Another step in the learning process
Black Titanium Baron (from Brett). Stringy Bark (sanded to 1200 w&d) with 5 coats of Rustins Friction Polish.
I was told 10 coats would be good but I was impatient after a few recent failures . Anyhow, it needs 10. I can (now) see the patches that the extra 5 coats would have removed. Dead easy application with cotton cloth. On lathe at 400rpm for initial application then 2000 rpm when I feel it become "sticky" for friction polish. Polish until I can't see changes in the polish surface and reapply at 400rpm.
I really like the closed end pens. For me it's about the timber and this style opens up a whole bunch of possibilities
Thanks for looking.David

Great pen, really does showcase the wood, gives an uninterrupted view of the grain, Russ

Thanks for the kind replies.
I don't think closed ends are the new way but, perhaps, a style that can suit a capped pen. I don't much care for closed ends in a twist pen. It's something about the balance between timber and metal/plastic for me so: the closed end twist has this big lump (nib) at one end that is finally balanced by the clip at the other end. Leave the clip off and the nib, for me, dominates the timber. If someone's into "shiny"
I like the closed end capped pen .... okay, I'm not talking about the cap end being closed (wip), I mean the cap style as opposed to the twist (exposed nib) style ....
I like this pen style for closed end because the metal doesn't dominate the pen and I wanted to make one since I saw them a few months ago, saw them and loved them instantly. A bit like people loving ... hhhmmm ... sierra styles
Thanks againDavid
