Clutch type pencil kits
I am after pencil kits that take at least .7mm lead for engineering drawing. The pencil has to be no thicker than a slimline when completed and has to have a clutch to push the lead down and a sharpener in the end. Staedtler make a pencil of this type but that isnt going to help with this search. I have a commission for a few of this type if I can locate them. Any advice welcome.

Thanks Fred - That might just do the trick. He was after Staedtler by the Pentel version might be a goer.

Thanks again Fred. I will watch it tomorrow as I just got home from the markets. A dismal day with very, very few people turning up. I think they forget to advertise it as the organiser has been in hospital with an illness for a while. My only pen sales were to other vendors there and it seems most sales went that way. Still I broke even and might do alright out of this commission.

Don't know whether you have The Penturners Bible by Richard Kleinhenz, but pg 48-51 also shows how to do one of the Pentel pencils, but a bit more complicated.

Greg, is 2mm too large ? The vertex click pencil accepts 2mm staedtler leads. It can have a slim body. Not sure about the sharpener though. This is the size architects use for drawing.

Thanks Doug
I will check with him when he phones me. He did mention .7mm as the smallest but I dont know how big we wants to go. I think it has to be a fine line (damn puns)

My daughter is carrying my latest two. She tells me no-one in her Architecture course use the standard built in sharpeners and all use a special type that cost mega bucks. I prefer a clutch pencil over propelling but kits are rare. Have you looked at IAP to see what they do ?

Greg I have made them before and think I had up to .9 mm leads just interchanable by the insert can even change back to a pen. I have some in stock somewhere. Try here http://www.beartoothwoods.com/catalo...a293&x=43&y=12
They were made for an engineer on the forum who was doing just what you want to do with them I also have a step drive to do Pentel if you wanted a loan need also to locate it

Thanks very much for your generous offer Sam. It is much appreciated, however, this guy wants a Rolls Royce for a mini budget. While I will read up on how to make them out of interest, I think he may have to find a new pen turner.
