    Default Cocobolo Sierra.

G’day. I’ve just turned up this pen out of cocobolo. I had a way more interesting grained one but that one got sold and I forgot to take pics...

Finished with EEE and Shellawax, sanded to 1200

    Very nice Benny
I didn’t realise you were in the Pen selling world.

    Good stuff.

    Cheers Matt.

Nice pen Benny. You'd have a significant advantage selling at the markets. Make more things to sell, it only gets harder to sell things as you get older. I can hear all the customers, "You made it yourself, what a clever young man!".

Haha yep, get that one all the time! Planning on doing bigger markets soon as the one I do regularly is quite small. I’ve been making whistles to sell as well.

Good stuff Benny. It’s very satisfying being able to sell your products, and helps to pay the bill for more bits. Sounds like you are doing well.
When I sell a pen, I always put it in a box and include a business size card that I print myself, with my logo on the front and my email address on the back. I think it looks more professional, gives the impression that the pen is valuable enough to have its own box, and the cards have resulted in extra sales. This is the box I use for most pens, higher end pens do get a better box though Acrylic Double pen case - Timberbits - Made in China
I have linked Timberbits, but others sell the same one.

I should have added that I would add $5 on top of what you are charging, to cover for the box and card.

Nice one Benny. I have been looking at EEE and shellawax for my wooden pens and looking at your pen I think it could be the way to go. Getting a little disappointed with CA lately. I put on plenty of coats but it seems to sand away even with micro mesh. Was planning to get this for some bowls I'm working on.
    Cheers,

Thank you for the advice! When I sell I give a pen pouch and a business card with something glued on the back saying what wood it is and my contact details on it etc. I haven’t tried the cases yet though, I’d assume they might be better for gift giving? Good thing they’re at timber bits as that’s where I get majority of my stock - excluding the wood.

    Cheers,
    Mac
    Thanks.

When I use eee and Shellawax I put on 1 coat of eee, then 5 - 15 coats of Shellawax, depending on how lazy I am [emoji6]
I’ve only tried CA once or twice by myself - both times failed

A minor amount of my pens don’t turn out like this but most do. Also depends on the wood as well.

Haven't seen you about for a while Benny but it looks like your pen turning has progressed dramatically if you are now selling them. Always a good feeling when you can sell a few and get some money to get more kits and grow your collection.
Your fit and finish looks as good as anyone now so it's good to see your progress.
Just a small suggestion when photographing your work, try to put the item outdoors out of the direct sun and don't use the flash. This helps to show off the grain better and you don't get the flare of the flash.
You need to show us some more of what you are selling.
