First big commission
Phew, I've finally finished!
The latest batch of pens I've been doing (which included the crosscut osage orange cigar I posted a few days ago) was mainly a buildup for a big sale. A friend from work dropped over about a month ago, took one look at the pair of cocobolo statesman pens I did for myself and asked if I could do him a set. Didnt even bat an eyelid when I told him the price! (he's getting paid more than me ).
Just finished them this evening, after some minor drama on wednsday when I polished through the rustins on two sections and had to recoat . not going to tell the customer that, though!!!
Here they are in all their final glory:
I even had some decoys in the batch to distract the screw up pixie - of course they turned out perfect and I had the drama on the important ones, didnt I . I rather like these ones, Bocote on a gold gentleman's pen. Going to use them at work to dazzle the boss:
Also been mass producing cartridge pens (308 cases using copper slimline kits). Finished the second batch of 6 last night and I'm behind on the current orders by about 4 - 5. Damn thing are selling like hot cakes!
Well, that's about all the pen from me for the week. Had to share the pics now the drama's all over. It's been a busy week - time for a few beers to celebrate!
cheers

Nice work. I like the bocote one.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

Thanks guys. emailed the buyer last night & he sounds pretty keen to pick them up.
Found a supplier of noodler's inks in adelaide yesterday, too, so I've got some interesting colours to try in the bocote fountain!
I was looking for a brass lacquer to coat them with and got blank stares everywhere I went. Until I can find a local supplier, I'm leaving them 'army'. Most of the people I'm selling them to are probably used to brass patina anyway, but the initial polish makes them nice & spiffy when they're sold (sanded to 1500 then brasso).Coffee, chocolate, women. Ripper Cartridge Pen
Ripper cartridge pen, DM - I agree with Peter, it's the best I've seen, despite no wood! Any chance of a tutorial, or at least brief word-picture, on how you prepare & produce this model? I particularly like the way you used the rimless cartridge bases back-to-back to form the centre band.
BTW, re brass finish - years ago, in my soldiering days, I discovered a brass polish far superior to Brasso. It was called "Goddard's Glow", made by an English firm. It is a paste polish that comes in a tube, and it leaves a protective film which lasts a hell of a lot longer than Brasso; also it does not leave that white powdery residue for which Brasso is infamous (among soldiers, anyhow!). I'm still using a tube from my Army days, as a little bit goes a lonnnnng way, so I'm not sure if it's still available, but it would be worth checking out.Subvert the dominant paradigm!

Tornatus,
I've just done a write up for woodenink, but there's about 30 photos (slow morning, playing with the camera ). I've got it in pdf form, final size is just over 1meg. if you PM me your email address I'll send it to you. Might try and see if I can get it on the video hosting site, otherwise I'll do a thread one evening when I've got enough time.
Thanks for the brass polish tip - I'll see if I can track some down.Coffee, chocolate, women. Some things are better rich.
