A couple of Huons
A friend brought me over some Birdseye Huon Pine from Tasmania recently. Here are a few Sierras that I made from it. Quite a bit more left yet, so there will be some more pens to come.
Finish is 20 coats of thin CA, micromesh to 12,000, Brasso buffed, and then Meguires polish to finish.
Comments and suggestions welcome.

Nice work on the Sierra and the EB's.
Fit and finish look great.
Great match of plating to complement the timber.

Aussie wood
Hi Freddie, Thanks for your comments, and yes it is great wood to turn and produces a very fine finish for a soft wood.
You could try looking here for some Australian woods. They do ship worldwide I believe if you read their "About us" page.Dallas

Love the pens. Help please in identifying a Huon Pine dresser
Hi there clever maker of those gorgeous Huon Pine pens (and others in the forum?) I'm still new to forums and I don't really know where to start and how to use them to ask questions (or even if this is the best place to ask them...).
Anyway here goes... I have recently won on ebay what is supposed to be a Huon Pine dresser and I would love to know some tips in identifying if the timber is actually Huon Pine and not Baltic Pine etc. I am supposed to be collecting it soonish but would love to be prepared with some knowledge. I do have a 'nose' for sniffing out and appreciating the smell of Huon (bizarre as it sounds) as I own a couple of Huon knick nacks. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Cheers PS I really enjoyed dabbling (long time ago) in an evening college Woodwork class. Would have loved to have had Woodwork instead of sewing when I was in High School. Might start some projects again one day...
