Default Couple of Jr Gent RB

Was asked to make a couple of pens using some Lychee from a tree that came down in FNQ.

I had never seen, or worked with, this timber and it was quite interesting.

Couple of Jr Gent 1 Roller Balls in Gold.

Very nice Fred. Good attention to detail, and the excellent photography really shows them to good effect.

    Thumbs up

    Very nice indeed Fred!!!

I have a large lump of lychee here. Our Club in Bris was invited to cut the thing down after
the owner had removed a couple of limbs. Bugger od a stuff in one way in that you could
literally watch it crack as it was cut. It turned a deep red on exposure to air but I see by
your pen that it is not so dark.

Nice work Fred, thats a timber I have not seen before. Looks like there are two different colours there, are they both from the same piece of timber?

It does split faster than a lazy person at a working bee...pens look fantastic Fred !

I had some larger chunks that I didn't slab up straight away and they almost all split to different degrees. Dust is a bit nasty as well.

    Cheers

    Russell.

I had one blank split when drilling, just thought it was me being ham fisted, maybe not.

It was difficult to finish (CA) as well, one of the pens I had to sand back to bare wood 3 times as the CA kept lifting, I thought perhaps there was still a bit of residual moisture in the wood.

Russell, now you have said that I better cut the 2 spalted larger bits you sent me!

Might pay to, next time I find some Lychee I will try to slab it up as much as possible while it is green.
