A couple more pens
Hello all
Here are some pics (sorry about the quality of the second one, couldn't get my digital camera to take an in focus photo)
First one is a Baron dressed in Purple Heart that I made for SWMBO who is a purple freak.
The second one is a dip pen, if that's the right term, made from Cypress. I keep a journal, and write in it only with dip pens. My great-grandfather had the most exquisite Copperplate hand writing till he lost a thumb, after that you can barely read his writing. Trying to emulate his style, very badly. My best writing looks like his after the thumb came off.
Cheers
ozIf you find you have dug yourself a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging.
I just finished child-proofing our house - but they still get inside.

Both nice pens ,amazing how many of the "gentler" sex love purple , and the Ubiquitous "Biro" has a lot to answer for in the handwriting stakes, I remember going from pencil to ink at school many long years ago hehe, and at the age of ten was given a conway stewart fountain pen ,some of todays kids and even their parents have no idea of the joys of fine writing with pen and ink, be it a dip or fountain pen. Calligraphy uses similar styles to the one you made for yourself so that must mean something ,maybe the longer pens allow more control , enjoy it and the creation whatever you do . Cheers ~ John
G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

Hi Oz, Neat pens want you to know my writing can look like a thumbnail dipped in tar I cant blame biros for the graduation from pencils was to a dip pen. Our ink was made by the class from powder and water, each desk had an ink well in a top side corner, blotting paper was necessary especially for the lefties who tended to get in a frightful mess adopting strange grips hand on blotting paper to avoid smears. Like so many dreamy soppy references to the good old days at school it is a myth for the majority of us suffered rapped knuckles and humiliation along the way. Nibs had a mind of their own and a popular sport was to use others dip pens as darts with the inevitable results. When we grew into fountain pens even the best of them required constant cleaning ink was at a premium. White shirts copped the most when the bladder perished or the pen suffered a bump in normal play. Mothers cursed ruined clothes resulted from the inevitable pen left in a shirt pocket.
Give me a biro pen anytime for everyday use both for ease of use and economy they brought writing into the new world of convenience.
Having said these things my wife has an ordinary writing hand but trained as a Window Dresser Ticket Writer using Paint Brushes and Dip Pens with Indian Ink and drew, painted remarkable illustrations and writing of high quality.
In common with the majority our Fountain Pens mostly end up with the family Bible gathering dust I too love the heft and feel, the appearance of the fountain pen and a broad nib find the real care factor handling ink brings back those long settled memories.
I have never made a fountain pen but admire them as works of art.
Really impressed you keep a journal your family and decendants will thank you for that as you create history that passes unnoticed otherwise as the generations follow. Some times making pens can mean a way of displaying our beaut timbers and plastic etc creations to me they are useful and decorative presents that bring incredible joy to the receivers. Some times because of the relatively cheap costs involved in making we tend to undervalue the impact Pens can have. I have in my possession journals written that commenced in the 17 and 18 hundreds that write in detail of my family lives in Scotland to America Scotland to Australia etc that form the basis of several books one of our daughters has published of mine and SWMBO family cronicalling the generations.in pictures, verse, history.
Like your dip pen ideas. Regards Peter.
