a couple of questions on bullet pen kits
Hi folks, if I may pick your brains for one moment,I would like to turn a couple of pens as a wedding gift, to date I have had no experience with the bullet pen kits, I know there will be different opinions on the topic but I was just wondering whether there is a preference for a certain kit, and are all the pen kits available in Australia made in Taiwan. I would like a good quality kit where the finish of the parts does not come off with use. And who is a good reliable supplier. Thanks all for your input.
cheers
Joel

Hard to go past Davids (Timberbits) quality seems as good as any one elses All finishes will wear in time no matter what the brand ,but I think the Taiwanese do make a better quality kit ,The bolt actions seem to be very popular and nothing to bugger up in dodgy mechanisms, only your thumb and a spring as the working parts, easily turned and finished and assembled, takes a parker refill , cheers ~ John
G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

Personally I don't think any of the bullet kits available would be suitable for a wedding pen. None of them look authentic. You would be better off using a real casing and projectile and making your own, there are plenty of tutorials on this forum. As for a long lasting finish either powder coating or Les's dipping method would be my suggestion.

Joel,
Are you talking about Bullet pens or bolt actions really doesn't matter anyway most are either from Mainland China, and some are from Taiwan. I have had some of both not a lot of difference, if anything slightly better quality out of Taiwan.
Cheers
Tony.

Seriously?????? A bullet pen of any kind for a wedding pen????? What is this a shotgun wedding??? Had to say it.
Man I would not even think of a bullet pen for a wedding pen. Timberbits has some real nice kits and get some nice blanks. Just my 2 cents

Thanks rumnut you have a very valid point about authenticity, I shall have a look at the tutorials, keeping in mind my brain isn't quite as clever as most on the forum.
HAHA, good one the bullet pen for him and a something else for her
Thanks again all

Of course there always the shotgun kit, its a PSI kit I think and may suit the occasion now-a-days.

There is always the over and under roller ball kit, I think 043 or pops shed sell them,
i like the bolt action kits and the "mark 2" from timberbits has a nice feel with the smaller bolt mechanism IMO,
i have had a timberbits twist bullet I use nearly every day for probably about 6-8 months and the brass/copper tip has started to where off a bit if that is an indication for you,
hope that helps in some way
Cheers Ben

Just thought I let everyone know the outcome, The wife agreed a bullet pen most probably wasn't appropriate, so here's what I ended up with.
Not the most exciting blanks, but they are from a blackwood tree salvaged from the grooms block. thanks for looking
