    Default A Couple of Sierras

Here's the two Sierra Elegance pens I managed to turn out today. Both from my own blanks, the wood one is bocote with inlays of walnut. Pens are in gold & gun metal. Constructive comments appreciated.

The first pen in acrylic is brilliant Chrome - the colours really are great - almost as good as your 'ear 'ear pallette blank from the great van Gogh.

The timber on the second pen is also wonderful. I prefer timber to acrylics but a personal choice. I was just wondering about the cut into the waist of the pen. Its a bit hard to tell from the photo but does the timber meet the outer part of the ring on the Sierra? It is an interesting cut and one I have not seen before. The veins? in the walnut seem to clash a bit with the veins in the bocote, but nevertheless very nice work.

Thanks for the positive comments guys, appreciated. The acrylic came about through a lot of experimentation with metal powders and glitters of different consistencies... more to come on that front shortly.

Greg the profile came about due to a last minute dig-in, but it seemed to work and meets perfectly. My eighteen y/o son commented on how nice it feels in the hand, so I'm happy with it.

    Great looking casting!
Not sure about the walnut banding inlays, they seem out of place to me.
Photos look nice, but would look great without the distracting props.
