    Default cracked nuts

Here are my babies, created from macadamia shell.
The kits are standard slimline, as these were only
    experimental/prototypes.
Only two days old and allready have orders for ten.
This is there first public showing.

As you may have guessed, one very proud father.

    Hi all,

macadamia shells (broken) embedded in polyester resin.
Resin is mixed/tinted with macadamia sawdust, any sawdust will
do as long as it is very fine (nearly like flour). also added some
ultra fine shavings as a bit of fibre, to help bind the resin.

drilling and turning is softly softly, to avoid cracking and tearout
of shell. be prepared for plenty of trips to the sharpening stone,
as these nuts are hard as, and any force will see bits of nut
flying. So eye protection is a must,

When embedding shells make sure there is no air trapped in or
    under the shell.

I think that about covers it, I poured a single block mould and
then cut individual blanks on bandsaw, but I found there was a fair bit
of waste and as resin is not cheap, I intend to pour individual
    blanks next time.

    cheers Mick

    Forgot to say,

If tearout is not too bad, it can be repaired by mixing about
a teaspoon of resin to one drop of hardener, fill affected
area and roll the blank in matching sawdust.

What an excellent result to an excellent idea. Ripper madmix, good on yer!

I wonder how it would look with abalone shell bits in it. (Dangerous as far as working on it without full gear on. i was reading about how Native Americans used to keep the shell under water whilst working on it so as to avoid the poison dust). Then i asked my wife if that was true or a bit of flim flam. "Nah," she said, "it is true".
