Having seen these "in the flesh" pre-casting I can say that this is a great way of getting some interesting pen blanks.

They really came up well Sam

So is it a casting that you pour the nail polish crackle into to make the right sized pen or is it a pen blank turned to the dimensions you want then painted over it with the crackle?

I had no idea what crackle was until I asked SWMBO(She is owner of hair and beauty salon) so she filled me in on what they use it for

The pen tube is sanded then a colour of your choice is placed on the barrel I use 2 or three coats, let dry, then use one coat of the crackle. When dry place tube in a mold and pour clear resin, Turn as you would a normal acrylic pen. The end results are as good as your imagination. I have a few other styles of this meium that I am playing with as well.

Okay good to know. Thanks for the info. I'm only new to pen turning so im interested in all sorts of finishes one can achieve

What is the brand of clear resin you use and where do you get it? I think I've seen the mould casings on timber bits and cws before but not sure if I've seen the resin before.

    Cheers

Nice looking pens Sam, they are definitely going to be a good seller. Picked up a couple of orders for them now.

One of the places you can get small quantities is from bunnings , they sell Diggers clear casting in about 500 mill tins, you need to get some MFC catalyst at the same time , with resin savers you will get a lot of castings from these tins at around $ 20 tin. A Lot of information is stored in the casting section at the top of this forum well worth a browse cheers ~ John
