Curly Maple Sierra
So my first pen for ages it seems, an on the new equipment too.
When i was last up at mapleman's place we got to chatting with the lady of the house and this pen kit came up, she had purchased it a long time ago with the intention of making it but didnt realise the requirements, so i offered to try, it was a bit bag weathered and missing a couple of bits, they gave me a small bit of "special reserve" curly to have a go with. I rekon its come up ok.
I'm almost sure they think i've stolen the kit, but its taken me this long to get to turn a single thing, life has been impossibly hectic, and as promised it was and is my first post and on the top of my to do list.
the night pics from my iphone dont really do it justice, the chatoyancy(Sp?) is just stunning. I think the kit is old as its not a mechanism i've seen before in a sierra, just the one separation thread, and also the bushing diameters were different nib to cap.
I promised Mr Maple one for himself as well so i'll get another (new style) made, in a few days to match, and get them posted off.
Sanded to 600, 18 coat CA, wet MM, brasso, SG.
Neal.
