    Default Dai Sensi's visit

I begged and prodded and poked Neil till he gave a pen turning demo with a couple of mates from the local woodturning club. Especially after he cut so many turning blanks of all descriptions for me that my new blade on the bandsaw is blunt (guess what he's doin' tomorrow). I guess I shouldn't complain. He also cut me some slabs out of a peppercorn log I've been milling (https://www.woodworkforums.com/f132/m...t-more-180633/). We been 'avin' lots of fun. We're both sittin' 'ere on our laptops trying to navigate around the blank pages. Hope this posts.
These are the result. The one on the left is Black Locust burl (Robinia pseudoacacia) and the other is from the crappyest piece of teatree (dont know what variety) and stabilized with CA and filled with CA and coffee grinds as filler.

Does he ever stop? Isn't it supposed to be a holiday!
I am sure everyone that has had contact with Neil in his travels has appreciated all his talents and generosity.
What were the blanks used on the pens?

I think the details were added after my post The Teatree came up a treat, so well worth the effort.

You can read every post and bit of info available and get an understanding of whats needed to do a particular thing, but a live performance beats all that hands down . And watching Neil turn some uninspiring "Junk" into a work of art is a treat to behold hehe. Well done all round on the milling and the pens as a result , cheers ~ John

Found the trolleys of gear sink pretty quickly in the sandy loam around here . Ended up laying down a heap of gal iron sheets so we could move them about and set up. Only one of the old guys watching from the club really turned pens, and only used wax, so I just did a EEE/Shellawax/Hut Gloss finish (it was also getting dark). Still got to demo some gluing up, finishing ends etc tricks, but as usual most of the time was spent yakking and drinking coffee

Went to take some decent photos today only to find one has already gone missing .
