Default Just another day in Resinville

    Hi Folks,

Just trying out some new resins here, pen isn't supposed to necessarily look good.

The left side is to see if I can reproduce the "Lava Flow" blank I posted a while ago. Did this one slightly redder than the last which was Orange, but more importantly with the right side, was made with pure Aluminium flakes.

Apart from the obvious problem with the darn tube showing again, which I believe is due to the nature of the flakes, what do you think of the result? I was hoping to try and get a pure metal look. Well that obviously didn't happen. I've got a couple of other versions of the same blank with slight variations in each, which I'm not sure I'll bother making into pens, as I'm not that happy with the result.

I really do like the Lava Flow blank. I think the other blank almost looks like a piece of granite?

Hmmm yes, I love the Lava Flow!

    Good work!

I agree looks a bit like granite
Looks ok to me might be one where you've gotta paint the tube

    Russell,

not sure if it's the photo, but it looks like at the clip end, where the tube shows, is a bit overturned. If that is the case, maybe it wouldn't show if it wasn't. Still looks good.

    Thumbs up

I like it! Lava flow is great look, top is fine although tube painting would help.

i agree it looks like granite at the clip end but that to me makes it look like it belongs with lava flow it's got a whole volcano eruption thing going.

Yup, it's the picture. because the resin is clear there, you can really only see the tube, not the clear bit above it, although it is very close to the bone, so to speak. Painting will help. I did put heaps of the flakes in, so I'm not game to add any more to try and make it more opaque, as I think the resin integrity may begin to suffer.

So this is a case were tube painting is essential it seems, or else tinting the resin a bit. I do have a piece that has blue PTFE dye in and red glitter as well, but it can sit for a while till I contemplate my belly button a bit longer.
