Default What a great day in the Shed today !!

    Hi All,

Had a great day in the shed today, all pens start to finish with no drama's what so ever kept myself very busy as I am sure you will all agree and finished in plenty of time to watch the rugby

First up we have a couple of Snr Gents one in 24ct Gold finished in Blue Mahoe in a natural finish and the other in Chrome and Capa Blanco and finished in my usual CA finish.
Next up we have my very first Executive clicker finished in one of my own castings which I really think suits the style of pen.
We then have a Sierra Pen and Pencil Stylus set finished in an Exotic Blank called Golden Night Glitter sanded and polished to finish and boy does it sparkle and catch the light.
To finish off we have another Sierra Pen and Pencil Stylus set finished in a mix of raw edge Coolahbah Burl and red resin coated in my usual CA finish.
Thanks for looking and I think I need a sleep now

    Cheers
    Tony

He certainly has of late. The Clicker is definitely a good looking pen. I haven't made one yet however, with the length of the blank, do you have any trouble drilling it out?

Yes Scott I did I never really gave it a thought until Beedeejay mentioned it to me. Anyhow I did not have an extended drill bit of the right size so using my self centering vice I drilled the blank from both ends and viola !! These kits certainly have a smooth click action to them and are great for showing off more of the material being used

    Cheers

Geez, I reckon you were lucky! I've got a tiny bit of run out on my drill press (something I need to fix) and I think doing it that way would end up wrecking the blank.

Thanks for your answer anyway, if I do go down the clicker route I'll invest in a long drill bit

    Love the pens. Very Nice.

I have the same issue Scott not only with the drill press but the lathe as well....very frustrating.

Are you using the same drill chuck for the press and lathe? If so, it sounds like the chuck itself.

Sometimes, when drilling the blank on the lathe, if you are going to quick (pushing hard) you can get some runout. Same applies to the drill press.

I have done the same as Tony and drill from both sides the trick is to make sure u mark the center on both ends and I use a small drill bit and drill both ends of the blank in about 5mm or so in and then put the correct size drill bit in and center the tip of that drill bit with the smaller hole I drilled previously once I am happy with the alignment I start drilling. I drill as far as I can from one end but this process needs to be done very slowly or the drill bit may wonder a bit which will cause issue at the other end. After I have drilled one side I flip and repeat the process it is a pain put it works for me ;-)

Other then that I just cast the tube P problem solved

    Hi Mik,

unfortunately not so no I cannot take the credit for the casting I was given them sometime ago and have a funny feeling they may have been castings that Neil may have done. I do have some raw edge NG Rosewood Burl in a rich red colour to do though and they should look pretty special I would think

    Hi Ben,

I found it to be a very smooth click action, however I guess time will tell. No reason why it should not stay like that though

    Cheers
    Tony.
