    Default One of those days.....

Has anyone ever just had one of those days that was crap from start to finish? I had one starting last Friday... I was going to my cousins house warming party the next day and I really needed to finish off a couple of pens I was making for her and her new husband as a belated wedding gift. I took a small bit of olive from their wedding venue to make a pen/pencil set. It took a while for the timber to dry and this was going to be the next time I was to see them so Friday night after a long day at work was my only chance to get them done. I generally don't like to do wood work to a dead line but on this occasion I had no other choice.
Only two pens, should only take an hour tops... famous last words!
If something could go wrong, it did... Started off by spilling a pot of CA all over my hand, had a big blow out on one of the blanks, made a great CA finish then it cracked when I put the pen together. Pulled it apart, broke the pen kit. AAARRGGGHH back on the lathe, re applied CA finish, got stuck on mandrel, started to trim a whisker off the edge with skew, slipped and stuffed CA finish AGAIN... sanded and applied CA again. pulled off mandrel, 5mm chunk of CA snapped off... Cracked the SH*TS, threw tools on ground. Had instant remorse, picked up tools feeling stupid. Put pen back in lathe, re did CA for millionth time. put it all together, looked okay but had built up massive hatred for this pen by now. It was midnight and had to get up for work by 7 the next morning, still had to make another pen before bed... Mounted second blank in lathe, 20 minutes later had perfect pencil with great CA finish. Why o why couldn't the first one have been this easy???
Shower, bed, blink of an eye alarm clock is going off. full day of work, drive 2 hours away for house warming, struggling to stay awake. Cousin loved pen/pencil so made it all worth it. She has a walnut tree in her back yard I can get timber from! 2 hour drive home. bed, now back at work. Talking of work, I better go do some!

    Rant over,
    Ash.
