Deer antler finally
I chased all over the place and finally sourced some Deer Antler. Used slimline kit and .308 shell. Came up pretty well. looks better in real life than in pic. It wasn't a very big antler, I got 3 blanks out of it at a cost of $25 so guess it wasn't too bad. Made this pen also a Siera which my daughter in law sold to one of her friends. Gave the third piece to my son in law. Have kept the smaller pieces to use as centre bands at a later date.
Reality is no background music.
Cheers John

Like the look of that antler on your pen John, well done.
I'd be a bit cautious with importing antler and buffalo horn, wouldn't AQIS take a dim view of that?
Fines could well outstrip the cost of the materials a few times over.
I was offered some antler from OS but decided not to take the risk, have since sourced some from alocal deer farm, but haven't turned any yet.
Edit:
Looked it up, a permit is required to bring in deer horn

Deer well done John so you now have enough $$ to buy more from one sale.
Interesting looking pen I must admit.
I can hear the story now shot this Deer with this bullet
Surely with all the deer farms and the water buffulo we have here we could source some of each.

I didn't try any of the overseas suppliers because I wasn't sure about bringing that kind of thing into Australia. Got mine from a Deer farm at Mt Samson, Qld. Here
Its about 70kms from where I live.Reality is no background music.
Cheers John

that is a nice pen . once its drilled i find antler easy to work with ,and i am about to make some along those lines too, when the cartridge's get here probably later on this week , i have the antler no probs there ,only hold up could be time in the shed in between other things that get priority .
i have done a few antler sierra's and a couple of antler BT-401's i like the look of them sold a few of those too.
not sure i like those rifle clips though might just go with the one's with the little ball on the end on mine see how they look .
