Thumbs up My new Desk Pen

Learnt more about this steel, getting it tamed is quite a challenge. Any one who has drilled a steel lintel over windows will commiserate with me it seems they chuck all sorts of stuff into both steels so it varies from normal to tool steel inside. If you look at Rebar the flutes run opposite ways and the word round means approximately.

Also found a challenge with various pen kit sizing now I measure closely before I try to fit out a pen. I think what I miss most is the variations in coatings and downright out of size bits of the kits, guess therein lies the fun of the creation process. The bars are in real long lengths and flatness is another dirty word. In spite of this I made some for orders they are stunning easy to use and feel great to hold, they challenge pockets but as I use mine on my computer desk thats fine by me, still weighs in less than the large kit pens.

As I speak I am designing and building another worlds first pen, fun is it not?

    Regards Peter.

Hi Peter! is the reo round enough to grip truly in a three jaw chuck, or do you have to set up in a 4 jaw independant , and yes if you drill a 1/4 " hole the activater will most likely be too loose ,we are a bit buggered here in aussie for the specialist drills available overseas ,I know you can get them in .001 " steps . Either way it comes up pretty well for a bit of "junk steel" hehe, next you will be onto the stainless bolts ,cheers ~ John

    Looks great Peter

Did you give it a light sand to remove any sharp edges, and is it finiahed with anything to avoid rusting?

    Love it Peter!

Reo is used for everything here in Brasil - fence posts, anchors, fire tongs and pokers. Even saw a reo rake hadle!

A mate of mine tells me that modern steel is about 10% tougher than the old mild steel for the very reason you mention. All types of steel are tossed in together as it is too costly to sort.

Looks great. Can't wait to see whats in the pipeline. I tried a different idea but failed miserably. Sheep manure will just not hold together under any circumstances. Would have looked bit like coffee bean blank yet smelled a little different. Still you have gotta try everything once...

    Goodday
To get an accurate hoe size, try drilling the hole just a little smaller than the hole size you want ( maybe 1/32 or 1/2 mm smaller ), then follow with the correct size drill. Normal angle pointed drills are controlled by the point of the drill, and if this is slightly off centre, the hole will be oversize, the predrilled hole overcomes this nad will give you a more accurate hole diameter. Hope this will be of some assistance. Try it on a sample piece first.
