Default Drill bits: Does 33/64"=13mm ?

Well I know 33/64" is about 13.1mm, but no hardware in Warwick has a 33/64" drill bit and can't get any apparently. Next available size up is 9/16" (14.29mm)

Given the El Grande specifies 31/64" (which I have) and 33/64" as the bit sizes, would a 13mm bit be too small for the tube? Otherwise, where the heck are you guys getting you 33/64" bits?

Why don't you drill a 13mm hole in a piece of scrap and see how the tube fits?

Pretty sure I used a 13mm instead of a 33/64, the difference between the two is like .0038" which is 0.09652mm, so in other words, a bee's dick

if you haven't already done so try contacting the place where you bought the kit from, often they sell the correct drills.

Good idea, but I don't actually have a kit yet. Was wanting to make sure I could get a bit before ordering one - bit of a chicken & egg scenario.

Already asked, and no they don't. Neither does gpw, carrols or carbatec.

I agree it's close DJ, but it doesn't take a lot for tubes to not fit. I could always go aggro in the hole with the 13mm to try and widen it a bit I suppose, if it didn't fit.

Main problem is, I'm trying to source an Aussie supplier before looking OS.

OK, small tube is 11.95mm or 0.471" and the bigger tube is 12.95mm or 0.509" and that is taken from 3 different kits, 2 El Grande and 1 Churchill

OK thanks for going to the effort of measuring. So I might be able to just get by with a 13mm, with a little expansion or tube reduction if necessary. I think I have a 13mm bit already, so it's worth the shot.

from memory 13 mm is just too close a fit .without some additional reaming or sandpaper on the end of a dowel and spun in your hand drill. Especially with burls as they tend to expand with the heat of drilling , then contract on cooling, so drill won't even fit back in. I have used a 13.5 mm drill which is the same as 17/32 " .If you go that way be sure to use a thicker glue to make up the difference in between tube and wood.Ihave been looking locally from time to time for 33/64ths ,no luck yet

Bleh, no 13.5mm locally either, it's either 1/2" or 13mm as the max without a special order and a huge bill. Maybe ordering one from the US might be worth it after all.

    Thumbs up

Sure Blackwoods in Bris. would have 13/64 bits. If not try Bolts and industrial in Bris.
