Dye Job No.2
Under much sufferance I was dragged to the scrap booking expo at the convention center in Brisbane. With a I am not going I copped a whack over the ear and was dragged kicking and screaming. As I was waiting for the new SWMBO I listened to this lady talking about colouring. She then said the magic words, these pens are a dye pen then the brain went into over drive. She thought how good it was to see a young man into scrapping, I told her I wasn't and what I wanted to do with the pens. We then talked for nearly an hour about colouring techniques and how it would look on timber. I ended up buying a basic set of 12 colours and then the loose ones were 5 for $25. I don't know how long they will last using on timber but the first result has been encouraging. The 2 colours I used for this are Bubblegum Pink and Deep Violet. See what you think. I did a quick 5 coat CA finish.
Cheers

Darren, technique you will get skillfully done, colours tend to become a personal item-a bit like music- what you like in music maybe what someone hates, I see great potential there and congratulate you on the skill level. Amos

Thank you my friend. You are right my friend, what is for one may not be for others, but this has potentially opened the doors for a lot more experimenting. I reckoned there were over 40 colours in the range. I forgot to say it was a piece of Mango used for the experiment sanded to 400 then applied the pink first and burnished it in with paper towel . Lightly sanded with 400 and that exposed some of the bare wood but not all, I then brushed on the violet burnished it in with the paper towel again to create the pink and purple you see. The brand of the pens are called Marvy.

I think if it works to your satisfaction, then we need to see a finished pen!

Looking good bdar.
Glad you didn't spend all your time sitting in a corner sulking.
We might learn something more from you!!
One point I'm interested in is the fade resistance of these colours. It may not matter much as I don't see much of a chance of having pens exposed to long periods of bright light.
