An ear for you
Well I haven't done one of these in ages and I have a sack of these laying around from a friendly farmer. The cob is unstabilized and natural. Sanded to 400 and 20 coats of CA, finished with MM and triple buffed. Comments welcome.
Cheers

Surprisingly Troy these ears/cobs are very solid and turn like a nice piece of wood, Cuts cleanly and sanded well. Have a heap of different spirit stains that I am going to play with and will take photos with my good camera. Well that is when darling daughter gets back from her school ski trip from Perisher and if it survived the cold .

Hi Darren,
See your having fun like not having to stabilise the cob, worked out great.
Kind regards Peter.Nil Desperandum

Hello Peter,
My friend, I hope all is well with you and families. I hope you have fun with your new lathe and await to see the treasures that come from it. That is what pen crafting is all about mate, fun. Too many get so serious about the oblique angle, and if the quadratic equation was the right one to create the design.
I don't have the flash machines or sadly the time to be creative like some of the wonderful stuff made here. I am a simple pen crafter, looking for clean lines, let the timbers talk for themselves and push my limits to the finest possibilities. Using a stabilised cob would be easy
Cheers

Nice job Darren. I might give it a go if no stabilisation is needed.
