    Default EB/aussie

got back to the shop ( been in the tractor all day ) about an hour ago and the bushes had arrived from timberbits for the E/Bs , i got the kits last week but i never ordered bushes.
anyway i already had a bit of brown mallee burl glued up with a tube ready to go and here is the result my first E/B .
think i am getting a bit better but slowly . turned this one just between centres only no mandrel to try and get rid of some of the wobble , think i might need a new mandrel shaft and i know i need a new lathe but i will battle on .

    Hey Tex,

Sweeet, the Brown Mallee Burl is beautiful,

I got a dead centre from David last week and I did a couple of Sierra's yesterday, between centres, I like that concept. I have a couple of Brown Mallee EB's glued up for Tonite, My computer has had a sickie for the past few days, it's going to Expensive Care tomorrow, hope I can post a few pics by the end of the week.

I don't have a decent dead centre, but need a smaller toolrest before I can try that anyway.

    Pen looks pretty good.

It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

i made my dead center cos i never had one .
but what i did have in some of dads old gear some large no2 morse taper drill bits i think there were a few 1 1/4 "drills so i just cut one off where the flutes start and then put the morse end into my wood lathe turned the lathe on and held my 4"inch angle grinder on the tool rest running in the opposite direction and made a dead center
thats what ya do in the bush make do cos ya have too or do without

3 or 4 coats ( not sure ) CA then a buff with 0000 steel wool then 2 coats of rustins friction polish buffed till fairly hot and hard ( i hope ).

PS i have another finish that i used a long long time ago when i restored a few old wooden alvey reels for for an old fella mate , i must try it on a pen one day and then if it works ok ill put it on here , if it fails ill just shut up about it . i do remember it was hard on the fingers though .

The Dayacom EB's use a 9mm brass tube where as the Sierra's use a 27/64" tube, therefore you need different bushings for the two kits.

Texx - Great looking pen, I have a soft spot for brown mallee. It always seems to be a hit with every one.

    Thanks for sharing.
