Exceptional Brown Mallee Burl
Exceptional because it is a rare derivation from about a thousand miles from here, I have dug deep into my beauts stash and this is a keeper.
Went outside into the flat overcast sky just now so the great shine is not showing but I find using lights you get the gloss but it can mask for me that is precious detail.
Regards Peter.

WOW that sure is a nice piece, the contrast between the top and the bottom of the blank is spectacular you would almost say 2 different piece's but you can see that they are from 1 very very nice
I like the shape of this pen especially the top
Well done Peter I can see why this is a keeperCheers Rum Pig

I'll go along with exceptional! Beautiful timber and workmanship
Can I ask what the cove/slot under the clip is for? just looks, or is there a functional puprose?
Cheers,
Dave...but together with the coffee civility flowed back into him

Nice work Peter, Timber is beautiful and worth keeping, I agree with Rumpig the top and bottom of the pen look like its come from two different bits of timber. well done.

Al .

Nice work and an exceptional piece of timber
Did you do your usual round over to ease into the centre band?
and I don't think you should keep that pen - You should send it to me so I can admire it and hopefully aspire to similar qualityregards

Gotta agree with everyone else!! That is superb timber and another wonderful pen.
Nice clean lines to the pen, the very muted decoration at the cap end is just sufficient to add a little extra interest.

That's a real beautiful piece of timber Peter!
Outdoor photo really shows off the timber grain.
Well done!

Hi fellas
Dave the decoration is what I call why not at any time do something different and I did.
Al and RP you prove my theory this is fully matched same stick pen blank, my theory being even when it is it is not always apparent in burl timber and when it isnt no one notices so my conclusion over many many years is this if I have managed to gain two cross grain pieces of Conkerberry from difficult cuts I use them in one pen.
For fully matched where I think it matters see my Olive pen just posted and one other pet thing of mine is I match in the open position of the pen since I photograph that way to give the pen height in my small stand.
Yes Nick my usual round over but more restrained this time, I will make some new style Streamlines shortly from David with the Aussie animals and they the round overs will be finer still cause of the flat centre bands. I believe in horses for courses.
Having fun with my limited time these days turning.
RP did you receive your parcel I sent overnight last week?
Regards Peter.

Lovely piece of timber you found there. I like the way you turned it too. You turn out very nice work.

Hey Peter,
Very Nice indeed, that Brown Mallee Burl is beautiful, all the pieces that I've seen are special, I don't think that anyone could say that there is a plain piece of Brown Mallee Burl,
Nice feature at the clip end
